It Takes Two to Build, But One to Break

Two hearts must choose to walk as one,

To share the rain, to chase the sun.

Two souls must trust, two hands must hold,

To build a love more precious than gold.

It takes two voices to make a vow,

Two willing hearts to honour it somehow.

Two must forgive, two must believe,

Two must give more than they receive.

But strange is love, and cruel its fate,

One heart alone can close the gate.

One silent choice, one step away,

Can turn forever into yesterday.

For what took years of love to grow,

One moment’s choice can overthrow.

One may still fight, one may still care,

But love cannot survive on a single prayer.

And therein lies love’s deepest pain,

That one may leave while one remains.

For two must choose to make love stay,

Yet only one can walk away.

So if you hold a heart that’s true,

Remember what it took from two.

For love is built by hearts that agree,

But broken by one who chooses to be free.

And perhaps the cruelest truth of all—

It takes two to promise never to fall,

But only one to let the other fall.
